About Me

It is in the realm of human existence to ask the question of why am I here? where do I come from? Who did I get my green eyes from? Did my great-grandmother like to write like I do?  Curiosity is why I started working on researching my family history. I started when I was in my early twenties and it was an older friend of mine who first introduced me to the family history center. I knew I was hooked when I made my first connection with one name I had and the interest grew.

First, about me, I was born, Allison Mary Atwater, on August 10, 1972, to proud parents, Neil Finlay Atwater (born January 10, 1946) and Mary Elizabeth Lussier(June 7, 1947), in Vancouver British Columbia. I am the eldest of two children. My younger brother Michael Neil Atwater who prefers to be called Mike was born on January 17, 1976.

I am happily married to my partner in crime  and the proud mother to two boys and our very active chocolate lab.

I grew up in the bedroom community a suburb of Vancouver. My favourite past time was visiting with my grandmother Lee (short for Elizabeth). Long story short my grandmother’s brother Richard could not say Elizabeth so he called her Leebay and as time went on Leebay became shortened to Lee.  I loved listening to her stories of when she was growing up in Philadelphia, her family’s move to Memphis and finally settling in Winnipeg Manitoba where she eventually met and married Grandpa. Gran’ma Lee is the true reason I started researching my family tree. She had always wanted to make the connection between her 2x great grandfather and our Ancestor who sailed over from England with William Penn in 1682 on the Good-ship welcome but I will get into that later. When she passed away in 2005 at the age of 100 years, I vowed that I would make that connection for her. It has been over 13 years since she passed away and my search for the connection continues.

With this blog, I hope to connect with long lost family and fill in some unanswered questions. It is a lifelong journey and something that I hope to pass on to my children.
